If you’re dreaming of swaying palm trees, pastel buildings, and that laid-back island vibe—without leaving Walt Disney World—you’ll love Disney’s Old Key West Resort. As a Disney Travel Agent and fan of the more relaxed side of the magic, I can’t recommend this charming Deluxe Villa resort enough for families, couples, or groups looking for a peaceful stay with all the Disney perks.

Here’s everything you need to know before you book your trip to Old Key West!

Pin for Later!

🌴 The Vibe: Relaxed Island Charm

Old Key West Resort is nestled along the water’s edge of the Disney Springs area and brings a touch of the Florida Keys right into the heart of Walt Disney World. With pastel-colored villas, tropical landscaping, and plenty of space to spread out, it feels like a true retreat. This is also the original Disney Vacation Club resort, so the rooms here are huge compared to other properties.

🏖 Pool Areas: Soak Up the Sun

The main pool, known as the Sandcastle Pool, is located near the Hospitality House. It’s a family favorite, featuring:

  • A giant sandcastle-shaped water slide
  • A whirlpool spa
  • A children’s pool and playground
  • The Gurgling Suitcase bar for poolside drinks

There are also three quiet pools scattered throughout the resort for those moments when you want to relax with fewer people around.

🏠 Hospitality House: The Heart of the Resort

The Hospitality House is the central hub for check-in, dining, shopping, and recreation. Located near the main pool and boat dock, this area is where most guests start and end their day. You’ll find:

  • Olivia’s Café (more on that below)
  • Conch Flats General Store for snacks, souvenirs, and Disney essentials
  • Community Hall for crafts, games, and family fun
  • Bike and surrey rentals for exploring the resort
  • Access to the boat transportation to Disney Springs

🍽 Dining & Lounges

Olivia’s Café is a hidden gem—ask any Disney regular! This table-service restaurant serves up hearty Key West-inspired meals and Southern favorites. Breakfast here is fantastic (don’t miss the Banana Bread French Toast!).

Other options include:

  • Good’s Food To Go – a casual quick-service spot near the pool for grab-and-go meals and snacks
  • Gurgling Suitcase – a cozy, full-service bar offering specialty cocktails, beers, and even a few light bites
  • Turtle Shack Poolside Snacks – seasonal food and drinks at one of the quiet pools

🎨 Community Hall: Fun for All Ages

The Community Hall is one of my favorite offerings for families. It’s a laid-back spot where you can:

  • Check out board games or DVDs
  • Participate in daily arts and crafts
  • Rent sports equipment (tennis, basketball, shuffleboard)
  • Play foosball, ping pong, and video games

It’s free to enjoy and a great way to relax during your non-park days.

🚍 Transportation: Boats & Buses

Getting around from Old Key West is easy and scenic!

  • Water Transportation – Take a boat to Disney Springs, which runs frequently and offers a peaceful, scenic ride.
  • Bus Transportation – Disney buses run to all four theme parks and Disney Springs. Old Key West has multiple bus stops throughout the resort for added convenience.

Tip: If you want quicker access to the parks, request a room near the Hospitality House, which is the last pick-up stop before the bus leaves the resort.

🛏 Room Types: Spacious Comfort

Old Key West has some of the most spacious rooms on Disney property! Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with extended family, there’s a room option for you.

  • Deluxe Studios – Sleeps up to 4, includes a kitchenette, queen bed, and sleeper sofa
  • One-Bedroom Villas – Sleeps 5, with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, whirlpool tub, and large living area
  • Two-Bedroom Villas – Sleeps up to 9, perfect for larger families
  • Three-Bedroom Grand Villas – Sleeps up to 12! Ideal for family reunions or multi-generational vacations

💙 Final Thoughts

Old Key West is one of those hidden gems that delivers on space, relaxation, and classic Disney charm. It’s perfect for travelers who love having a quiet home base while still being close to all the magic. Whether you’re spending time by the pool, grabbing brunch at Olivia’s, or just enjoying the pastel views from your balcony, Old Key West feels like a true escape.
