1. Dalwhinnie Scotch – Scotland

You can’t go drinking around the world without a good stiff scotch. My favorite happens to be Dalwhinnie 15 Year Single Malt Scotch. Located in the heart of the Scottish highlands, Dalwhinnie has been creating delectable scotch since 1897. Before my visit to Dalwhinnie, I had never had scotch in my entire life – honestly, I was only 20 at the time, but I was legal to drink in the U.K., so I thought why not give it a try! And boy did I love it.

Dalwhinnie Distillery offers a variety of options to taste their various blends of Scotch. There is the Tasting Only Option (6-18 Euros), Whiskey & Chocolate Tasting Tour (24 Euros), and the Dalwhinnie Distillery Tour (12 Euros). If you are interested in buying some in the states, a fifth will run you about $70. Make sure to call ahead, because not every store carries it. Or you can order online direct from Dalwhinnie or other online sources.

Jamaica

We honeymooned in Jamaica in 2015 and loved every minute of it! We fell in love with the culture and carefree vibe of the country. Another love we discovered was Appleton Rum. This rum embodies the spirit of Jamaica and has been the rum of choice on the island for more than 265 years. You can drink it on the rocks, with Coke or my personal fav, in a Rum Runner!

3. Rum Runner – Jamaica

The Rum Runner is next on the list of must-try drinks. It’s one of my favorite fruit ‘Tiki’ drinks, best enjoyed on the beach! With tons of fruit, rum, and liqueur, this drink will catch up to you quickly, so be careful! Check out the recipe below:

4. The Manhattan – The United States

The Manhattan, a classic whiskey cocktail. Originally created by a bartender in New York City, it’s a simple drink with few ingredients, but the results are amazingly delicious. You can choose between rye whiskey, bourbon, or even Canadian whiskey. There are also a ton of different recipe variations to make this cocktail unique. Check out the list of ingredients below:

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces rye whiskey, bourdon or Canadian whiskey
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 to 3 dashes angostura bitters
  • Garnish with a Cherry!

5. Hurricane – The United States

The perfect New Orleans cocktail, the hurricane, is next on the list of must-try drinks. Best made as an entire pitcher, this fruity drink is full of rum and fruit. Perfect for sipping on a warm evening. It is traditionally served in a Hurricane glass.

Italy

Italy is the land of wonderful, yummy wine… and we do love wine! Chianti is my wine of choice in Italy, especially in Tuscany! You can find it in the U.S., but it’s a little more difficult to locate. The most common Chianti found in the U.S. is Davinci, but it’s more of basic table wine. Your best bet is to go to Italy and have some of your favorites shipped home. 🙂

We loved Limoncello too! We had dinner at a little place in Rome and our waiter explained that the Limoncello is for the ladies and that the Italian men drink Grappa. I tried both and I will tell you, I am fine with sticking with Limoncello.

6. Limoncello Spritzer

Limoncello is a strongly lemon-flavored liqueur that is delicious and sweet. You can enjoy it on its own or in a mixed cocktail. Be careful though – drinking it straight may go to your head very quickly. Best to enjoy it in a mixed cocktail. Check out my favorite, simple, recipe for a Limoncello Spritzer below:

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Limoncello
  • A splash of lime juice
  • 2 parts Sprite or Z-up

7. Fernet – Argentina

Originally manufactured as a medicine, Fernet is made from 27 different herbs and spices which vary according to the brand, but usually include myrrh, rhubarb, chamomile, cardamom, aloe, and especially saffron, with a base of grape distilled spirits. A classic way to enjoy Fernet in Argentina is simply on ice mixed with Coca-Cola.

Ingredients

  • 1 part Fernet
  • 2 parts Coca-Cola

8. Strongbow – The United Kingdom

When I studied abroad in the U.K., I was just 20 years old, and hard cider was my favorite easy-drinking drink. My English hard cider of choice was Strongbow Hard Cider, preferably on tap in a little English pub. It’s sweet, crisp, and refreshing – everything a nice hard cider should be. You can get Strongbow by the bottle in some local liquor stores. My favorite of the must-try drinks in the U.K.

9. Pimms – The United Kingdom

Another drink I enjoyed while studying abroad, is the classic English garden party drink, a Pimms Cup. It’s a must-try drink for sure! Pimms is a dark-colored liquor that has subtle tastes of spice and citrus. To create a Pimms cup, simply mix Pimms with a clear soda (ginger ale, sprite, 7-up), or lemonade. Then throw in a ton of fruit! The English like to use cucumbers, oranges, lemons, strawberries, and mint. Normally made by the pitcher, a Pimms Cup is an easy sipping drink perfect for summertime or any social setting.

Ingredients

  • 1 part Pimms
  • 3 parts Clear Soda – Ginger Ale, Sprite or 7-up
  • All the fruit -cucumbers, oranges, lemons, strawberries, and mint.

10. Guinness – Ireland

The Irish have been making this amazing dark brew since 1756, right in the heart of Dublin at St. James Gate. I will say it tastes best while sitting in an Irish pub, but it is available for purchase at most local stores in the U.S. If you are ever in Dublin, make sure to stop by the brewery and check out how its made. The Guinness Storehouse is like the Disney World of breweries, complete with 7 floors of beer fun.

11. Nsa fufuo-Ghana

Nsa fufuo is palm wine made from the sap of palm trees. It’s also known as “kallu” or “toddy,” and is similar to “tuba” found in the Philippines. This palm wine can be served either sweet or sour depending on its preparation. Nsa fufuo is normally produced on small individual farms that promote palm tree conservation.

12. Paloma – Mexico

I have to say that after doing the ‘research’ for this article I have found a new favorite drink. The Paloma – a definite must-try drink! It’s one of Mexico’s favorite drinks – above the classic Margarita! It’s a simple and refreshing Tequila drink, that is easy to sip on and enjoy. Having made it a few too many times, I suggest using hand-squeezed Grapefruit Juice verses the store-bought. It makes a huge difference!

Ingredients

  • Kosher salt
  • 1 grapefruit wedge
  • ¼ cup fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ cup Tequila
  • ¼ cup Sprite or 7-up

13. Arak – Jordan

Arak is a traditional Levantine unsweetened distilled spirit from the Eastern Mediterranean region. It has a translucent white color and is in the anise drinks family. Growing up, we made Italian cookies with Anise in them so I am a huge fan of the flavor. For those who have not tasted this, it resembles the taste of black licorice. For me, this is one of my nostalgic must-try drinks. Arak is normally consumed at mealtimes with delicious traditional foods.

Cocktail Ingredients

  • 1 park Arak
  • 2 parts water

14. Bubble Tea – Taiwan

This very popular Taiwanese drink has many different varieties – it’s an absolute must-try drink! Bubble Tea falls in the boba category meaning chunky drink – sounds weird right!?! It’s not, I promise. The drink consists of black tea, milk, ice, and the chunky part – Tapioca Pearls. All shaken together like a yummy bubble tea martini. Bubble Tea is normally served with a large straw to allow the tapioca to travel up the straw. It also comes in several variations, so there is something for every taste pallet.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tapioca pearls
  • 4 cups freshly brewed strong black tea
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Ice cubes, for shaking
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

Sombai, or rice wine, is very popular in the country of Cambodia. It’s infused differently with fruits and spices, depending on the flavor that is to be created. Popular drinks include the Sombai Sour, Asana Sling, and Sombai Fizz. Check out the ingredients for the Sombai Fizz below:

  • 2cl Sombai Coconut and Pineapple
