Essentials for the Flight

For many of us, getting to Italy can be a very long flight. So in this packing list, I have included a few items that I have found to be extremely helpful to get through a long flight! Check it out below and just click on an item to order for yourself.

Basic Packing List For Italy

Traveling abroad is one of the most fun experiences one can have, especially in Italy! But forgetting something essential can be frustrating. Especially when that something may be difficult to find abroad. These items may be medicines, personal items, or travel security products. Below I have outlined the must-have items to have you on your Italy packing list:

Dressing for Italy: Spring/Summer Clothes

Dressing for Italy can always be a challenge. and a joy! For most of us, we don’t want to overtly look like a tourist so having a few things in the current Italian style doesn’t hurt. So, we are left wondering, what to wear in Italy? This packing list for Italy is sure to help!

Italian style is generally considered to be a more tailored look. Also, the weather is quite warm in the spring and summer so you will want to keep this in mind while packing. You will also want to make sure to dress in layers because some restaurants and shops may be cold. It is good to keep in mind that many streets are stone and the ground can be uneven- proper shoes are so important! It is also essential to check the weather before going even if it is supposed to be generally warm, it’s best to plan ahead as much as possible.

Suggested color pallet: creams, pale pinks, chocolates, tan, light blues and yellows

I have put together a few items for dressing in Italy and other stylish essentials to add to your Italy packing list:

  • Cute Dress (or two!)
  • Jacket
  • Flats and Sandals
  • Boots
  • Evening shoes
  • Skirts
  • Pants
  • Shirts
  • Scarf
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Bag (evening)
  • Bag (day)
  • Bathing Suit
  • Sleep set

Things not to pack:

  • Leggings- too casual for Italy
  • High High heels – to easily to fall in

Pro Tip- No matter how stylish you might want to look, make sure to pack clothes that make you feel comfortable! There is nothing worse than wearing uncomfortable clothing while trying to enjoy your trip.

Dressing for Italy: Fall/Winter Clothes

The weather in Italy in the fall and winter can be very different than the rest of the year so you will need to pack appropriately. You will want to make sure to pack a warm padded jacket and even some thermals if you are in the north. These should both be included on your Italy packing list. I would also suggest packing the appropriate rain gear too, just in case! Again, make sure to double-check the weather for your location before you go as you may need to adapt the list based on how cold it may be or how many outdoor activities you have planned. I have included the essential items for what to wear in Italy in the winter/fall below:

Suggested color pallet: Plum, Navy, Grey, and other jewel tones

  • Trench Coat
  • Umbrella
  • Bag
  • Hat
  • Scarf
  • Sweater
  • Warm Winter Jacket
  • Winter boots
  • Ankle Boots
  • Closed-toe wedges
  • Ballet flats
  • Long-Sleeved shirt
  • Pants
  • Warm Dress
  • Thermals (if in the north)
  • Comfy sleep set

Pro Tip- Make sure to pack lots of layers based on the weather in your travel area. You will want to be comfortable and able to do everything you want to do no matter the weather!

  1. This is a great post! Italy has really diverse climates, from snowcapped mountains to warm, sandy beaches, so you really do have to be ready for anything! I really loved some of the flowy dresses and one-piece swimsuits you choose. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love these tips! I’m never sure what to wear when I’m travelling so I find I have a general ‘holiday’ wardrobe and I end up looking like a tourist wherever I go! I’m saving your guide for when I next visit Italy for inspiration! Thanks for sharing these ideas!

  3. Excellent packing list for Italy! I spent 12 days in Italy in 2017 and managed to take just a carryon. I’ve become an expert packer! I even bought a cute outfit while in Italy and was able to fit it in. Look forward to more of your travel posts.
