Prague, Czech Republic
Submitted by Veronika from Travel Geekery
Prague is the most romantic city there is and that applies especially in winter when it snows. There’s nothing more romantic than strolling through the narrow streets of the Old Town in the evening during a snowfall. Snow paints all the roofs and spires perfectly white and it’s a wonderful sight.
One of Prague’s best viewpoints over the whole town, which can be combined with a nice snowy walk, is just by the Prague Castle. If you walk towards the Castle through Nerudova Street and then turn right, an amazing view will open in front of you.
Another romantic area is called the New World and is just a stone’s throw away. It’s made up of uniquely beautiful small houses, which look especially picturesque with snow all around. It’s also right here where Prague’s most romantic hotel “U Raka” is located.
Christmas time and the Christmas atmosphere bring another dimension to Prague’s romantic feel. That is if you stay away from the largest markets and enjoy rather the smaller ones – such as the one at the Prague Castle or e.g. in Vinohrady.
I can highly recommend that you visit Prague in winter and experience for yourself how lovely it is.
Paris, France

There is no denying, Paris is one of the most romantic cities in the world, the perfect place to visit for a romantic winter getaway! Any Paris itinerary is packed with romantic things to do like climbing the Eiffel Tower, have a romantic picnic with baguettes and champagne in a park, or stroll hand in hand along the Seine. In winter, you can do that too, but you might dress extra warm for that picnic and pick a sunny day. Sometimes you can get snow in Paris during January and February, and if you do, it turns into a romantic wonderland with the lights and iconic buildings.
There are also Christmas markets where you can go for a romantic stroll, drinking hot drinks and looking for unique Christmas presents for loved ones. Take a sunset cruise along the Seine and end off the night dressing up for a romantic dinner at a high-end restaurant. And if you think ice skating is romantic, what about trying out the ice skating rink on the first level of the Eiffel Tower, 57 meters above the ground?
London, The United Kingdom
Submitted by Sara from WanderMoore
The capital of the U.K. is full of culture, history, top art museums, and great food! Especially for the winter season, this urban city is full of amazing decorations and a bit of snow to top it off. Some of the top things to do include seeing “Big Ben”, visiting the Houses of Parliament, checking out Picadilly Circus (a great place for shopping!), visiting Westminster Abbey, seeing the British Museum and so much more!
Make sure to book a hotel right in the heart of the city so that all the top sites can be accessed via the Underground or as the locals call in “the tube”. The streets of London and the cute English pubs make for a perfect romantic date. With lots of things to see and do, London makes the perfect place to escape for a romantic winter getaway!
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Submitted by Deb from The Visa Project
Be it your honeymoon, anniversary, or a plan to spend some love time with your partner, Dubai has something for you. The perfect place for a romantic winter getaway!
If a romantic dinner is your thing, how about booking a dhow cruise to explore the marina waters and spend your evening in the middle of the sea?
Are you a movie buff? Then head to Wafi City’s rooftop movie theatre where they show classic movies. Relax into a beanbag under a sky full of stars right next to your partner.
While no special reason is required to take a hot air balloon ride, taking one with your better half to explore the gorgeous sand dunes with the majestic mountains of Hajjar in the backdrop, is a must. And maybe watch the sunset in the desert and go on a desert safari to attend live Arabian performances like belly dancing in the splendid sands.
Beaches in Dubai are always the perfect romantic getaway where you can stroll hand in hand, as the waves crash at your feet.
And here is how to get a Dubai tourist visa, if you need one.
Tbillsi, Georgia

If you’re hunting for the perfect off-beat destination for a romantic winter getaway, look no further than Tbilisi.
The capital city of Georgia (that’s Georgia the country in the Caucasus), Tbilisi oozes charm and character. Winters are fairly mild by European standards (daytime temperatures rarely dip below zero degrees Celsius in the city), making this an ideal time to visit. Even when it’s cold outside, there’s no shortage of ways to warm up.
Romantic winter activities include a wine degustation for two (Georgia is the birthplace of global viniculture and boasts a centuries-old winemaking tradition), eating hearty Georgian cuisine (khinkali ‘soup dumplings’ are a favorite), and best of all, hiring a private room at the Tbilisi sulfur baths. The city is built over natural hot springs and in winter, this is the perfect steamy retreat from the cold.
There are plenty of blue-sky winter days in Tbilisi so you can still enjoy the outdoor attractions the city has to offer. These include scouring the Dry Bridge Market for antiques and vintage gems and hiking in the pretty Botanical Gardens. When night falls, the most romantic thing to do in Tbilisi is watching a show at the Opera Theatre before heading to one of the restaurants in the Old Town for a candlelit dinner overlooking the city.
Koh Lanta, Thailand
Submitted by Victoria from Guide Your Travel
Koh Lanta is the perfect island in Thailand to visit for a romantic winter trip. You’ll find some of Thailand’s best beaches in Koh Lanta and great couples experiences such as Spas, day-trips to nearby islands, and romantic restaurants. Take a walk along the beach which stretches for miles and stop by one of the little bars for a drink by the water. If you’re looking for wild parties and backpacker hotspots then Koh Lanta won’t be the place for you. It’s a quiet island perfect for honeymooners or those seeking the ultimate relaxing experience.
Relaxing doesn’t have to mean boring though. There is still plenty to see and do in Koh Lanta. Hire a Tuk-tuk or scooter and explore the island or go on a snorkeling trip to see some of Thailand’s incredible underwater world. But even a day spent by the pool or on the beach can be an amazing way to experience Koh Lanta and all that Thailand has to offer.

The Costswolds, United Kingdom
Submitted by Karen from Marvellous Middle England
What could be more romantic this winter than cozying up in front of a log fire and sipping something warming in a charming UK village? The Cotswolds is the perfect place to do this. Full of the prettiest honey-colored buildings, friendliest pubs, and sweetest independent stores for your Christmas shopping. This is the place to make some festive memories.
For the ultimate romantic stay, head to the idyllic village of Bibury, home to Arlington Row, one of the most photographed streets in Britain. Book a stay at the Swan Hotel and choose the Whooper Garden Cottage. You’ll be treated to Nespresso coffee machines, a separate seating area, and your very own private hot tub. The perfect place to enjoy a glass of fizz.
If you can tear yourselves away from the hotel, wrap up warm for a bracing walk in the Cotswolds Countryside or village hop from one chocolate box village to the next. For your history fix, you could head to Broadway Tower for the best views in the area or Snowshill Manor, a beautiful National Trust Stately Home. For romantic stays in the UK, the Cotswolds never disappoints.
New York City, New York, USA
Submitted by Anisa from Two Traveling Texans
New York City may not be the first place you think of for a romantic winter getaway, but it does have so much to offer. Don’t let the cold weather scare you off, there are plenty of romantic things to do in NYC in the winter. If you are lucky enough to visit during the holiday season, there are lots of Instagram-worthy spots decorated for Christmas to take a photo with that special someone. You can also go ice skating hand in hand or sample the treats at one of the Christmas markets. Many of the roof bars have indoor seating so you can enjoy the view with your honey without being out in the cold.
For a special meal, dine at One if By Land, one of the most romantic restaurants in the world. For me, the most romantic place in NYC is Central Park. In the winter, it’s gorgeous especially when it snows. Take some time to walk around and enjoy the beauty, then you can check out the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Modern Museum of Art which are both nearby.
Budapest, Hungary
Submitted by Lucile from LucileHR.com
The amazing architectural creations and spectacular views of the Danube River easily make Budapest one of the most romantic places to visit in Central and Eastern Europe during winter. It gives you that same magical feel when in Paris – except that it’s less crowded.
One of the best ways to make the most of your time in Budapest with your loved one is by having a picnic at City Park. Here, you can find the majestic Vajdahunyad Castle and a really gorgeous lake. This is the perfect spot if you just want to escape the stress of city life and enjoy the moment with your partner.
You can also take long mindful walks with your partner along the forested castle grounds or wait for the sunset and feel the warm fuzzies when you witness the beautiful scene of the castle together.
There’s even more magic in Budapest in winter as you can enjoy traditional food, wine, and some arts and crafts at the Christmas markets, which run between late November to February. End the day with some fun by giving the ice rink at the City Park a go.
Alsace, France
Submitted by Maartje and Sebastiaan from The Orange Backpack
The French Alsace is one of the most romantic places to visit in Europe for a romantic winter getaway. This area in the northeast of France, close to the German border, is filled with vineyards and charming old villages. The charming streets of these historical terms are the perfect setting for a romantic weekend trip.
The Alsace is known for its medieval villages with characteristic cobble-stoned streets and colorful half-timbered buildings. A weekend should be enough to visit a few of them and absorb the Beauty and the Beast kind of magic of these charming towns.
Riquewihr might be one of the smaller villages in the area, but it’s a tourist magnet with its historical buildings, charming colorful houses, and picturesque streets. You might want to come early to visit the town with empty streets to absorb its charm to the fullest.
Colmar on the other hand is one of the largest towns in the Alsace. It’s Petit Venise area might not remind you of Venice at all, but it will make you feel like walking on a Beauty and the Beast film set.
Other romantic villages in the Alsace worth a visit are Ribeauville and Kaysersberg.
Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Submitted by Sara from WanderMoore
A top honeymoon destination, Ocho Rios is the perfect place for a romantic winter trip! With white sand beaches, great local culture, and all the rum you can drink, Jamacia can’t be beaten! Make sure to stay at one of the area’s top resorts- my personal favorite is Sandals Ochi Beach club which has ocean view rooms or jungle view butler suites. Plus with over 16 restaurants and bars, there is always something to do!
Make sure to plan some excursions on your trip such as visiting Dunn’s River Falls, Go zip lining, take a catamaran ride or visit the Appleton Rum Estate!
Seoul, South Korea
Submitted by Kawamura from My Inner Child
Seoul is a South Korean capital that never fails to amaze you even if you come here for a romantic winter getaway with your loved one. The city is so huge that you want to spend many days finding out a lot of romantic corners there.
Stroll through a historical and charming Bakchon village to get transported back to the old Joseon times straight out of the historical (and often romantic) Korean dramas. Go to the top of N Seoul Tower at night, which is an active TV tower and is a great lookout overlooking Seoul at the same time. Head over to a traditional Korean tea house which provides you with authentic Korean hospitality and the finest local tea service.
Pro tip: rent two sets of historical Korean outfits (Hanbok) at a clothing rental store, proceed to the Royal Palaces, and get free entry there! Just show up yourself in front of the ticket boxes with your Hanbok on.”
Cape Town, South Africa
Submitted by Alya and Campbell from Stingy Nomads
Cape Town is a fantastic place for a romantic winter getaway especially for those who are looking for a sunny escape. The Mother City is the perfect place for a honeymoon trip, wedding anniversary, or just a romantic holiday. Located between the sea and the mountain and surrounded by vineyards Cape Town offers a great variety of things to do in and around the city. From scenic road trips to safaris at game reserves, from wine tasting to watching the sunset from the top of Lion’s Head or enjoying sundown on a Champagne cruise.
Out of hundreds of amazing places to visit in the city some are not-to-miss on a romantic holiday. Camps Bay is one of them. A picturesque neighborhood with a stunning mountain range and perfect white-sand beaches is a great place to stay for a couple. A scenic drive around Cape Peninsula is another bucket list activity. Don’t miss Boulders Beach here, a sandy beach surrounded by massive boulders with cute African penguins walking around. For wine and food lovers spending a couple of days in Franschhoek is a must. This small town in the middle of the Winelands is famous for its fine wines and exquisite cuisine.
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Submitted by Natasha from the Great Ocean Road Collective
For a romantic winter getaway, head to the Dutch capital of the Netherlands. This stunning city is known for its charming canals, narrow houses, and romantic cobblestone laneways. During the winter months, there are endless romantic activities to do in the city. The city is lit up by the colors of the Amsterdam Light Festival, creating the perfect ambiance for a stroll along the canals or a walk through the picturesque neighborhood of Jordaan where you’ll find cozy cafes and bookshops to explore.
One of the most romantic activities in Amsterdam is to explore the canals by boat. During the winter, you can take a private ride in a covered boat along the canals. Cozy up with blankets on heat seats, sip on warm hot cocoa, or some Dutch bischopswijn (a warm, spiced red wine), all while taking in this magical city.
During the holiday season, there are several Christmas markets and skating rinks set-up throughout the city. Take your partner out for a romantic afternoon or evening and try out some of the local delicacies, including Dutch cheese or sweet treats like stroopwafel or poffertjes.

Hallstatt, Austria
Submitted by Martina from Places of Juma
Hallstatt, the picturesque little village in the Salzkammergut, is certainly one of the most beautiful places in Austria and a wonderful destination for a romantic winter getaway. Situated in a breathtaking setting on the shores of the black Lake Hallstatt and with the imposing snow-capped mountains in the background, this small village of 800 inhabitants is a real visitor magnet. In winter, a picture-book atmosphere awaits you here – no wonder that this place is probably the most photographed in Austria.
Although the village Hallstatt is relatively small, there are many sights worth seeing, such as the historic marketplace with the beautiful Trinity Column. Especially beautiful are the many colorful houses and in winter there is a very beautiful Christmas market. Also interesting in Hallstatt is the Bone-House, where a collection of 600 colorfully painted skull bones has been kept. Those who love to take amazing pictures should in any case also visit the Hallstatt-Aussichtspunkt – the viewpoint of Hallstatt where the best pictures are taken.
But also in the surroundings of Hallstatt, especially nature lovers, sports and outdoor enthusiasts will have their fun. The highlights to do are snowshoe hike on the Dachstein-Krippenstein towards the 5-Fingers Skywalk and also a visit to the beautiful Gosau with its magnificent ski area is absolutely recommended.
Zermatt, Switzerland
Submitted by Allan from It’s Sometimes Sunny in Bangor
When it comes to romantic winter destinations it has to be Switzerland and the Swiss Alps, and when it comes to the Swiss Alps it is beat Zermatt with probably the most romantic backdrop of the snowy peak of the Matterhorn. As a famous Swiss alpine ski resort, there is so much going on in the winter months in Zermatt with cable cars navigating the surrounding peaks and lots of opportunities for skiing and winter sports.
Much of the romance is found indoors with après ski activities and lots of rustic restaurants including Café Du Pont, the oldest restaurant in Zermatt, where they serve traditional Swiss fondue to share for two. However, the views are what really make this winter destination and a hotel with views is essential with views framing the iconic Matterhorn. Zermatt also marks the start of quite probably the most romantic train route, the Glacier Express, which crosses the Swiss peaks to reach St Moritz at the opposite end.
Lake Bled, Slovenia
Submitted by Joanna from The World in My Pocket
Lake Bled in winter is probably one of the most romantic places in Europe. Covered in snow, Lake Bled transforms into a fairy tale, a scene from a storybook that comes to life. One of the most romantic things to do in Lake Bled in winter walks around the lake with your partner, especially if it’s snowing. Hand in hand, keeping each other warm, the stroll offers some stunning views, one more beautiful than another, as you keep walking around the lake.
Another romantic thing to do in Bled is finding a nice wine bar with a view, and enjoy a glass of local wine, near the roaring fireplace, whilst enjoying the snowy landscape.
Bled is known for its thermal waters, which many hotels are using in their spas. Many places offer spa couple therapies, where you and your partner are in the same room, relaxing at the same time whilst skilful therapists massage your aching muscles.
In winter, the traditional restaurants in Bled are not as busy as in summer and can be the perfect setting for a romantic dinner.
Ice Castle, USA
Submitted by Lisa from Planning Away
Want to experience something magical this winter? Consider going to an Ice Castle. This frozen attraction is located in six cities across North America. These cities include Colorado, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Utah, and Alberta.
The ice castle is a hand-crafted ice structure. There are tunnels and slides made of ice to explore. It really is a beautiful work of art. The ice castle is built entirely by hand using hundreds of thousands of icicles. The ice castle includes LED-lit ice sculptures (at night), ice thrones, ice-carved tunnels, and slides. It really is a romantic winter activity.
To prepare for your romantic winter date night be sure to dress warm, grab some hot cocoa, and have an amazing time in a winter wonderland.

Warsaw, Poland
Submitted by Bec from Poland Travel Expert
Warsaw is a city that has a huge amount of history in it. It’s beautiful, bold, and full of character and in the winter it comes alive.
Castle Square is decorated with a huge Christmas tree, there are little Christmas markets dotted all through the Old Town area complete with ice rinks and lights that light up Warsaw so beautifully. The perfect place for a romantic winter getaway!
It’s a romantic place to go especially at night time. You can walk through the streets from market to market, stopping at the ice rink for a skate before wandering to take in the lights. While you are wandering you can pick up some street food to share between the two of you or you can find a small intimate table at a restaurant and enjoy a dish or two together.
The displays change every year and they are amazing. Form Castle Square the are so many to spot with our loved one. Twinkle lights seem to hang from the sky leading you to the larger displays. In the past, there have been colorful peacocks, busses, and trains covered in colorful lights.
It all ends with an amazing lights display out at the Royal Residence at Wilanow. You can wander the gardens taking in the amazing decorations.
Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada, USA
Submitted by Christina from Travel2Next
Lake Tahoe’s white winter wonderland scenery makes it one of the most romantic getaway locations to visit in winter in the USA. When the snow falls, winter resorts are covered in a blanket of white, and sitting by the fireplace in a cozy cottage or enjoying a meal for two in a restaurant is fabulous for couples. There are some excellent day spas and booking a couple’s treatment is a wonderfully romantic and relaxing activity to do.
If you are an active pair, Lake Tahoe is the place to be and the best winter resorts for a romantic time are Heavenly Ski Resort and Squaw Valley. Other romantic things to do in Lake Tahoe are ice skating at Northstar, going on a snowmobile tour of the backcountry to see stunning natural scenery, riding the Heavenly gondola to enjoy panoramic views along the way. Take a moment to stop at the Observation D of the Carson Valley and the Desolation Wilderness.
The Poconos, Pennsylvania, USA
Submitted by Derek and Mike from Robe Trotting
One of the most romantic winter getaway locations is the Pocono Mountains in the United States. In this stunning natural region of northeastern Pennsylvania, visitors find forested mountain peaks, frozen glacial lakes, and loads of indoor and outdoor activities. The region is full of romantic accommodations like mountain cabins, lake houses, and ski chalets. An Airbnb Poconos retreat can provide a quaint and cozy getaway for any couple looking for an unforgettable backdrop.
For couples that enjoy outdoor activities, skiing, snowboarding, and tubing are available at any of the exciting Poconos ski resorts. A romantic winter hike is always an option in any of the enchanting state parks like Ricketts Glen. The cold winter temperatures also mean that the lakes of the region freeze and are wonderful for ice skating. Couples can also enjoy indoor activities like visiting one of the spas or enjoying a romantic dinner at one of the local eateries in the Poconos.
There is no shortage of romantic things to do in the Poconos during the winter months.
Kashmir, India
Submitted by Shalzmojo Shalzmojo Blog
Gulmarg is one of the most beautiful spots in Kashmir valley, be it any season. It’s situated about 56 km by road from Srinagar the capital city of Kashmir. Aptly called the meadow of flowers, it’s a sight to behold in springtime and summers. But winters are when this lush green landscape turns into a snowy wonderland which seduces ski-lovers from across the globe to visit. Snow coats the bare tree branches, lending them an ethereal air while the cottages look like muffins dotting the landscape as the snow piles up high on top of them.
One of the highlights of Gulmarg is the high altitude cable car ride that ferries passengers to higher reaches of the snowy glacier shoulders of Apharwat peak. The ride is very surreal as one is suspended high above the pristine white landscape, disturbed only by skiers flashing in random bursts of speed and color.
One can avail of many of the winter sports available here such as tobogganing, snowmobile, practice ski lifts, snowboarding, etc. Besides this one can just enjoy taking strolls through the snowscape; even walk in the falling snow. A host of great hospitality options to suit all budgets can be found quite easily in Gulmarg from log cabins to 5-star luxury hotels.
Nevis, Caribbean
Submitted by Steph & Lewis from Book It Let’s Go!
Nevis is part of the twin-island nation of St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean. Although both islands are beautiful with many things to do, Nevis has a more luxurious feel and is the perfect destination for a romantic winter getaway. With year-round sunshine and tropical breezes, Nevis is an island paradise waiting to be explored.
Stay in one of the many former sugar plantations turned boutique hotels such as The Hermitage Plantation Inn, Golden Rock Inn, or the Montpellier which was a favorite destination of the late Princess Diana. Enjoy the beautiful uncrowded white sand beaches with private cabanas and snorkel in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
If you are looking for romantic things to do then visit the hot springs on Nevis to soak away your worries or take a stroll in the nearby botanical gardens. For adventurous couples, you could take an ATV tour through the rainforest or hike the volcano and finish the day with a sunset horse ride along the beach.
If you run out of things to do on Nevis then St Kitts is just a 8-minute boat ride away, making it very easy to visit and explore for a day trip.
The Maldives
Submitted by Clotilde from A Princess Travelling with Twins
Finding the Maldives on a list of romantic destinations is certainly not surprising. Who hasn’t dreamed of walking hand in hand with their loved one on deserted white sandy beaches? Perhaps more surprisingly, the Maldives are one of those rare cases where the dream is not too far from reality.
Until about ten years ago, tourists were only allowed to visit the exclusive resorts. The recent opening of the local islands has completely revolutionized the way to travel in the Maldives. Finally, if you pay a minimum of attention to how to budget for the Maldives, you can have a dream vacation without necessarily terrifying your bank Manager!
The local islands have a wide offer, which currently has little to challenge the luxury of the more expensive resorts, but you can easily surprise your partner with a candlelit dinner on the beach away from everyone. You can organize picnics on one of the many idyllic sandbanks, or even venture into customized excursions to see sharks, sea turtles, and rays, while maybe a photographer immortalizes your dream.
The Maldives are certainly not cheap, but by combining a visit to the local islands with a couple of days in an exclusive resort you can still live the dream while keeping costs under control.
