Sandals Ochi Beach Resort Honeymoon

Sandals All-Inclusive Resorts are some of the most well-known destinations for a honeymoon and Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica is no exception! We chose to have our honeymoon here in 2015 because of the upscale amenities, premium dining, and couples-only feel. And we were not disappointed. This all-inclusive resort features 16 restaurants, 11 bars, a fitness center, spa, themed parties, and the Caribbean’s first speakeasy. They also have several expansive pool areas, a golf course, a country club, 100 acres of lush green landscape and so much more. In this post, I will share our experience on our honeymoon at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort.

Our Room

We stayed in the Butler Village One Bedroom Suite with an Ocean View. And let me tell you, it was amazing! The room was surrounded by lunch mango groves and tons of wildflowers. Our suite came with a small sitting area, large master bedroom, covered balcony, and elegant bathroom with a tub shower combination. There was also a separate bar area which was completely stocked with all of our favorites. We also got a 30-minute couples massage and $600 credit to use towards excursions or other on-site purchases. From our balcony, we could see the beautiful ocean below and our semi-private pool area. We were up in the hills overlooking the main resort so the view was awesome! To book your own room at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort- click here!

For a honeymoon, the Butler service is a must-do! We had a phone in which we could call our butlers for anything we needed. Most of the time we used them to bring us Sushi or pick us up in a golf cart. 🙂 But they also helped us book excursions, make food reservations and we had a private check-in/check-out right in our room. Each day they created special surprises for us in our room – see pictures below. And we always got a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the evening!

Pro Tip- Ask for some fresh bottles of your favorite liquor right before you depart. Don’t open them. Instead, pack them in your suitcase and bring them home! You are allowed to transfer 2 bottles per person safely back to the US without paying extra.

Explore the Resort

If you have never stayed at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort before, one of the first things I recommend doing is explore the resort. The resort is massive, at over 100 acres, there is so much to see and do. The resort is divided into two main areas. The Caribbean Riviera or the Butler Village/Great House. The Caribbean Riviera along with the Ochi Beach Club is located right near the water. While the Great House and Butler Village are tucked up into the secluded hills of the St. Ann Mountains overlooking the water. No matter which area your room is in, you will want to explore and experience both!

The Caribbean Riviera and Ochi Beach Club area feature all the water fun like kayaks, paddleboards, scuba diving equipment (must be certified) beach volleyball, pool tables, water games, a large pool area and so much more! Plus many of the fine dining restaurants are located within this area of the resort. They also have a tennis area and a rock-climbing wall.

Pro Tip- If you are certified in Scuba Diving, Sandals will take you as much as you want! Included in the cost of your room.

The Caribbean Riviera and Ochi Beach Club areas also have lots of places to take walks. Along the water, through the gardens, or find some hidden paths that lead to amazing views! They also have an expansive boardwalk area that you can walk out onto for even better views.

Pro Tip- This dock area is where a lot of the water-based excursions depart. They also have tons of special events in this area as well!

The Great House and Butler Village area is about a 3-minute shuttle drive up the hill from the beach. If you have a butler included in your room, simply call them and they will come to get you in a golf cart so you don’t have to wait. Once up the hill, there is another large pool area with tons of comfy places to sit. There are also several restaurants near the main house including a nice breakfast place, and Jamacia Barbeque restaurant. Don’t forget to look for the Speak Easy!

Pro Tip– There were several parties hosted near the pool area in front of the Great House. Don’t forget to pack something white for the All White Party!

Eat and Drink

At Sandals Ochi Beach Resort you can choose between 16 trendy restaurants from every type of cuisine including Oriental, Italy, the Caribbean, and France! Each restaurant is perfectly themed and set into unique romantic locations throughout the resort. The resort is all-inclusive, with no additional cost for the upgraded meals, it really is all-inclusive. Plus, you get premium wines and liquors!

Breakfast

There are several places to get breakfast within Sandals Ochi Beach Resort. In the Great House, there is The Southern Table, which is served buffet style. They feature garden-grown ingredients and home-style meals- really good!

Near the water, you can also dine at Vista Gourmet Sky Terrace which also features a buffet-style meal. But here you get breathtaking views of the ocean while you sip your mimosa! Also, really good food!

La Gourmand

Sandals Ochi Beach Resort also features a French restaurant called La Gourmand. We love France and have been several times since eating here, but this is where it started. We so enjoyed this food that we went to France the next year! I cannot tell you how amazing this food is. You must try the Escargots Bourguignon and the Crêpe Suzette!

Kimonos Oriental Cuisine

Kimonos features oriental cuisine from the far east prepared teppanyaki-style! This fun style of eating made for a great show and even better food. Plus, with this restaurant being steps from the beach, we were able to watch the sunset while we ate.

Kimonos serves up yummy grilled meals all cooked right in front of you on a flat surface grill! As they cook, we couldn’t help but enjoy the sights and smells of the food. Plus, the chef had a few fun tricks up his sleeve to make the show more fun! Overall a great experience!

Other Restaurants

Valentino’s – Amazing Southern Italian food! They even make their own pasta!

Soy Sushi Bar– Premium sushi! We got take-out here almost every day for a snack. You must try the Highway Roll!

The Reef Terrace– Overlooks the Ocean with fantastic Caribbean Cuisine!

Neptunes Mediterranean Seafood– Located right in the sand, Neptunes features amazing fresh seafood! You will love the rustic, open-air feel of this restaurant!

Manor House Caribbean Cuisine– Amazing Caribbean cuisine! Try some seafood or something with Jerk seasoning!

Kelly’s Dockside– You sit right over the water on the dock, with amazing views of the ocean! Try their seafood soups- so amazing!

Great House Cafe– Located within the Great House, they feature pool-side bits and drinks!

Tapas on the Riviera– Right down by the water, this little place is perfect for a small plate snack.

The Mariner Seaside Bar and Grill- They feature delicious food fresh off the grill just steps from the ocean!

Dino’s Pizzeria Italiano- Crisp, gourmet pizza made for you in their wood fired oven.

Bella Napoli Pizzeria– Great pizza to enjoy near the pool!

The Jerk Shack- Amazing Jerk Chicken located near the Great House pool area. A perfect afternoon snack or lunch spot!

The Rabbit Hole- Shh…. don’t tell anyone! Just watch this video to know more!

Go on Excursions

There is so much to do at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort you really don’t even need to leave! But, as I like to see the world and experience local culture, I highly suggest you do. If you decide to venture out into Ocho Rios, let Sandals handle everything for you. Sandals partners with local companies to provide you with the best experience possible. You book the excursions right at the resort, plus they pick you up and drop you off there too! You don’t have to worry about additional transfers or costs. I highly recommend using their services which are no extra cost- just more convenient. We went on several excursions this way which I will share with you below.

Deep-Sea Fishing

The first excursion that we went on was Deep Sea Fishing! We booked this adventure with Sandals and it left right from their dock- so we didn’t have to leave the resort. There were several other couples on board, several people to operate and guide the boat, and tons of drinks and snacks. Although we didn’t catch anything due to rough seas, it was still a really cool experience!

Pro Tip- Take a non-drowsy Dramamine before boarding the boat. Even if you don’t get seasick, it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Zip Line, Bob Sled, and Ski Lift

Next up, we had a credit to spend at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort so we booked a Zip Line Adventure Tour! This tour included a Ski Lift ride to the top of the mountain, Jamaican Bob Sled Ride (yes, just like the movie), and Zip Lining through the jungle! All of this was at the super cool Mystic Mountain complex. Our guide was friendly, the zip lining challenging and they even incorporated a bit of local culture within the tour. I would highly recommend this adventure!

Catamaran Ride to Dunn River Falls

Probably our favorite excursion was the Catamaran Ride to Dunn River Falls! We boarded the Red Locks Island Routes Catamaran just after lunch. On the way to the falls, we enjoyed the views and stopped to snorkel! Once at the falls we were greeted by our tour guide who made our journey up the 600-foot waterfall fun and enjoyable. Read more about our experience here! On the way back, the boat turned into a full-on party, complete with dancing and drinks! It was so much fun!

Pro Tip- Make sure you wear the right shoes for the hike and a bathing suit cover-up! Water shoes- I wore water-proof Teva Sandals and they worked perfectly.  Check them out HERE! Cover-up or Romper (for the ladies)-I wore one and I was SOOO happy I did! There are lots of opportunities for the water to whisk away that cute bathing suit. Check out one of my favs- HERE!

Bring on the Romance!

Finally, one of the most romantic things we did at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort for our Honeymoon was a Candlelight Dinner by the ocean! Sandals took care of everything for us! When we arrived our table was exquisitely set up completely with a full table setting, champagne, candles, and tropical flowers on the table- it was lovely! Our meal was four courses served by a white-gloved waiter. It was perfect!

You can book yours here! There is an extra cost to this experience but it is totally worth it. You can choose from multiple different locations throughout the resort to have your meal, and you get a personalized menu and beverage choices.

Looking to get married at Sandals?

Sandals Ochi Beach Resort can offer that too! In fact, if you book a certain number of nights at the resort they will throw the wedding in for free. Get more details here!

Special Events

Each day there will be tons of special events going on at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort! Everything from rock climbing to volleyball games to elegant evening parties. Make sure to check the schedule so you know what’s going on and can get the most out of your trip!

Make sure to check the yearly calendar before you book your honeymoon! There may be fun special events happening that only take place once or twice a year, like concerts or special guests. We were lucky enough to be there during the Boots on the Beach concert series! Not only did we get to see some amazing concerts but we were able to meet some of the performers too!

  1. What a beautiful resort! The catamaran ride to Dunn River Falls looks like so much fun! And the waterfall is stunning! So far our wedding has been cancelled twice due to Covid so with any luck we’ll finally get married next year – I’ll keep this resort in mind for our honeymoon! Thanks for the great guide!

This brought back some memories! Hubby and I stayed at Couples Ochos Rios for our honeymoon. Was quite a few years ago, but we absolutely loved Jamaica! The hotel looks awesome!
