The Magical Cliffs of Moher

I had the opportunity to visit the Cliffs of Moher with my husband in 2016, and it was truly amazing! I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful the cliffs are in person and that my photos do NOT do it justice. Worth an add to your bucket list. 🙂 These amazing natural cliffs are located on the Wile Atlantic Way of Ireland- about 3.5 hours from Dublin. There are many tours that you can take to visit the cliffs or visit on your own. Either way, you must go see the Cliffs of Moher! Check out my experience below:

Journey to the Cliffs

We visited the cliffs as part of a day trip from Dublin. The scenic drive took about three and a half hours and was beautiful the entire way! Think quaint little villages and rolling hills, plus we got to hear all kinds of fun stories from our tour guide along the way. The tour company we booked through was Paddy Wagon Tours. Another great option that I have used in the past is Viator! They have tons of unique tours of every budget.

Arrival

My husband and I arrived at the Cliffs of Moher in the late morning, just in time for some lunch. Our bus dropped us off near the front and our entrance fee was covered with the tour – it’s normally 7 Euro per person and children under 12 are free. As you walk into the complex area, you have the option to go through a little museum area first (which is really nice!) or head straight out to the cliffs. We decided to head straight to the cliffs- we were just too excited!

Wander the Cliffs

The view was absolutely, take-your-breath-away, amazing! My words and photos will never do it justice – this is a must-see it to believe it kind of thing. The Cliffs of Moher seem to go on forever (5 miles to be exact) in every direction, and there are little walking paths all along the edge, with O’Brien’s Tower (which you can climb!) on one end. We walked all along the edge, as far as we were able, and stopped at each viewing platform along the way. The cliffs are 702-feet( at their highest point) so we were treated to views of the Atlantic Ocean the entire time. Every minute spent there was surreal and amazingly beautiful.

Museum and Lunch

We visited a museum after wandering around the cliffs and had a nice lunch there as well. The museum highlighted the history, geology, natural environment of the cliffs and provided tons of interesting facts. Worth checking out on your way out.

Every bit of these amazing cliffs were simply amazing and well worth a visit on any trip to Ireland!

Make it a day of it!

After your visit, make sure to check out the Burren and Galway City!
