Travel Around the World Through Food!
Travel around the world through food with WanderMoore! 🙂 While at staying home and staying safe in early 2020 (a.k.a. stuck at home due to Covid-19), my husband and I decided we would make dishes from some of our favorite places we have traveled together. An integral part of our travel style is experiencing different destinations and cultures through the local cuisine – we love trying new food! We thought this would be a great way to recreate and reminisce about our travel adventures. Plus, we were super bored and cooking sounded fun! Check out the dishes we made below!

Italy
Ahhh Italy… one of my favorite places in the entire world. The people, the landscape, the history, and of course the amazing food! To reminisce about Italy we made homemade Gnocchi (which took forever, but it was well worth it)with a Gorgonzola cream sauce. The recipe we recreated was provided by Zazios based in Kalamazoo, MI- recipe is HERE! You’ll need a potato ricer for this recipe, it’s just not the same without it!
Side note – the amazing table in my photo above was hand-crafted by Myles Cronk a Newaygo, MI based artist, photographer, craftsman and family friend. Check out his website HERE!
Greece
As part if our Mediterranean Cruise with Carnival Cruise Line, we spent several days in Greece in 2016. We visited Athens, Lindos (on Rhodes) and Crete (wow was it HOT!). Sooo much fun was had experiencing the culture (I love Greek Pottery!), the historical sites, and, of course, the delicious food. We recreated one of my favorite fresh Greek salads – mmmm Feta cheese and Kalamata olives – and it only took 25 minutes! Check out the recipe HERE.
Jamaica
My hubby and I honeymooned in Jamaica 🇯🇲 in 2015 and absolutely loved it! The island is full of lush green jungle, vibrant culture, and tons of tropical drinks. We stayed at Sandals in Ocho Rios and everything was amazing (more on this in later articles)! One of our favorite meals we had (multiple times) was the classic Jerk Chicken. My husband (I admit I just ate the food) spent two days recreating this dish. And of course, no Jerk Chicken is complete without a nice bottle of Red Stripe or glass of Appleton Rum. Check out the link to the recipe HERE.
Mexico
Travel around the world through food to the country of Mexico! We have traveled to Mexico several times and always enjoy our experience. All-inclusive resorts are the way to go in Mexico, but the best food is always made by the locals. Make sure to branch out to the local towns near your resort to try the local cooking. That’s how we discovered our favorite version of tacos – slow cooked Barbacoa Tacos with classic toppings, onion and cilantro. These are not the tacos you whip up in 10 minutes – these take time and effort, but they are sooo worth it. And don’t forget the classic margarita with salt on the rocks 🇲🇽 Check out the recipe we used HERE.
Ireland
We visited the Emerald Isle in 2016, and one of our favorite meals we had was an Irish Fisherman’s stew. Fresh seafood, amazing herbs and spices mixed with a nice Irish Whiskey on the side – you can’t go wrong! We had Fisherman’s Stew in both Galway and Dublin – both were sooo yummy. Side note – It’s important to use fresh seafood if possible – it’s just not the same when you use frozen product. Check out the recipe HERE.

One of the best part when travelling is you get to try foods from different places. Thanks for sharing this.
Yum! These are all my favorite foods! The feta in Greece was some of the best ever!
Isn’t it funny how food can be one of our strongest memories of a place?! You’ve certainly been busy cooking.
All of these foods look absolutely delicious! One of the best things about travelling is trying all the amazing food! Every time I go back to Austria I get so excited for my Aunty to cook the most delicious meals haha!
